Jean Starching in Tulsa — Done the DeHoney’s Way Since 1921

Some things never go out of style in Oklahoma: a firm handshake, a good pair of boots, and jeans starched stiff enough to stand in the corner. DeHoney’s Cleaners has been starching jeans at 1427 S Harvard Ave since 1921 — more than a hundred years of wash, starch, and press — and jean starching is still one of the most requested services at our counter.

Whether you wear your denim in the arena, on the ranch, under a welding hood, or out on a Friday night, we will send your jeans home clean, crisp, and creased sharp enough to cut the wind.

Jeans with heavy starch and a sharp crease, starched at DeHoney's Cleaners in Tulsa

What Is Jean Starching?

Jean starching is a laundry process where starch is worked into denim during the wash, then baked in with a hot press. The result is a stiffer, smoother pair of jeans with a clean, sharp crease down the front of each leg.

This is not the spray-can starch from the grocery store aisle. Spray starch sits on the surface and wears off in an hour. Our starch goes in with the wash, so it bonds through the fabric — the stiffness, the smooth finish, and the crease last through the whole day and beyond, wear after wear.

Choose Your Starch Level

Every pair is starched to order. Tell us how you like them:

  • Light starch — A little body and a soft crease. Your jeans hold their shape but stay easy-wearing for everyday use.
  • Medium starch — A clean, defined crease with a noticeable crispness. The most popular choice for work and going out.
  • Heavy starch — The classic cowboy starch. Stiff, smooth, and sharp, with a crease that stays put through a long day.
  • Extra heavy starch — Stiff enough to just about stand up on their own. Rodeo-ready and ranch-tough — the way DeHoney’s customers have asked for them for generations.

Not sure which level is yours? Bring in a pair the way you like them, or ask at the counter — we will match it and keep your preference on file for next time.

Why Starch Your Jeans?

They stay cleaner, longer. Heavy starch seals the surface of the denim, so dirt, dust, and grime sit on top of the fabric instead of grinding into the fibers. At the end of the day, the day brushes off instead of soaking in.

The crease stays sharp. A pressed-in crease gives jeans a finished, dressed look — the difference between “just jeans” and an outfit that looks put together on purpose.

They hold up to work. Ranch hands, welders, oilfield crews, and tradesmen across Tulsa have trusted starched jeans for a century because stiff denim resists snags, burrs, and brush better than soft denim does.

They look right. For rodeo, western wear, church on Sunday, or a night of dancing, a crisp pair of starched jeans with a sharp crease is simply the standard. It has been since long before 1921 — and we have been doing it that whole time.

How We Starch Jeans at DeHoney’s

  1. Washed clean first. Every pair is fully laundered before starch ever touches it — starch over dirt just seals the dirt in.
  2. Starch in the wash. Your chosen starch level is applied during laundering so it works through the denim, not just across the top of it.
  3. Hot-pressed with a crease. Each leg is pressed on the hot head with a straight, sharp crease set front and center.
  4. Hand finished and inspected. Every pair is finished and checked by hand before it is hung — buttons, pockets, crease, and all. If it is not right, it does not go out. (More about our hand finishing)

Jean starching: $7.95 per pair — washed, starched to your level, pressed, and hand finished.

Jean Starching FAQs

How long does the starch last?

Laundered-in starch holds through the day’s wear and keeps the crease looking sharp well beyond it. Your jeans will soften gradually with wear, and the next wash-and-starch brings them right back to crisp.

Can you starch any jeans?

Yes — work jeans, western jeans, dress denim, and everyday pairs all take starch well. Very stretchy jegging-style denim holds a crease less firmly; we will tell you honestly at the counter what to expect from your pair.

Will heavy starch hurt my jeans?

No. Starch is a traditional, fabric-safe finish that has been used on denim for generations. Because it keeps dirt on the surface instead of letting it grind into the fibers, regular starching can actually help your jeans wear longer.

Light, medium, or heavy — which should I pick?

If your jeans are for everyday wear, start with light or medium. If you want the classic stiff cowboy finish and a crease that lasts, go heavy. Extra heavy is for the full stand-up-in-the-corner effect. You can change your level any time — just tell us at drop-off.

Can you starch shirts to match?

Absolutely. Starched western shirts are a DeHoney’s specialty — bring the shirt with the jeans and we will finish them to the same standard.

How fast can I get my jeans back?

Most orders are ready in a day. Drop them off in the morning and ask at the counter about same-day availability.
